| Severn Covenant's Statement of Faith |
 |
We believe the
Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are
the Word of God, fully inspired, without error
in the original manuscripts, and the infallible
rule of faith and practice.
We believe that there is one
living and true God, eternally existing in three
persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
equal in power and glory; that is triune God
created all, upholds all, and governs all.
We believe in God the Father,
an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness,
wisdom, power, justice, and love; that He concerns
Himself in the affairs of men; that He hears
and he answers prayer; and that He saves from
sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus
Christ.
We believe in both the humanity
and deity of Jesus Christ, God’s
only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy
Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth,
sinless life, miracles and teachings, substitutionary
and atoning death, bodily resurrection,
ascension to the right hand of God the
Father, and personal future return to earth
in power and glory.
We believe in the deity of
the Holy Spirit, who was sent from the Father
and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness,
and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify and
empower for ministry all who believe in Jesus.
We believe that all men are
sinners by nature and choice and are therefore
under condemnation; that God regenerates by the
Holy Spirit those who repent of their sins, believe
on Jesus Christ, and confess Him as Lord.
We believe that the redemptive
work of Jesus makes provision for healing for
the whole man: body, soul, and spirit.
We believe in water baptism
by immersion in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ
for those who have received Him as Lord.
We believe in the present ministry
of the Holy Spirit, who indwells all that believe
in Jesus Christ; that by His indwelling the believer
is enabled to live a godly life which manifests
the fruits of the Spirit.
We believe in the universal
Church, the living spiritual body, of which Jesus
is the head and all regenerated persons are members.
We believe in the Table of
the Lord, commonly called the communion
of the Lord’s Supper, for believers.
We believe the reason for each
person’s creation is that he might
live in open fellowship with the Creator.
We believe that our goal is then to live
a life uprightly before Him, in submission
to Him, and in worship of Him.
We believe in the reality of
heaven and hell and in the resurrection of both
the saved and the lost: the saved to everlasting
life and the lost to eternal judgment.
