"Even so, every good tree bears good fruit; ..." Matt
7:17
"For if the first fruit is holy, the lump is holy; and if
the root is holy, so are the branches."
Rom 11:16
In 1971, Jack Cox, Pastor of Severn Covenant Church, was attending a Methodist
Church . It was there that God began wooing Pastor Jack to a deeper relationship
with Him. About that same time, the Holy Spirit was breathing new life into
the church; a Billy Graham tent meeting ensued; and issues of true Salvation,
Water Baptism, Tithing and the filling of the Holy Spirit came to the fore
front.
The following year, in his hunger for God and search for a deeper relationship,
Pastor Jack explored many churches. In 1974, Jack and his wife, Mary and
their two children, having already left the Methodist Church, found a non-denominational
church meeting in Ridgeway School that later became known as New Life Christian
Fellowship.
New Life Christian Fellowship began meeting in a church building in Arnold,
Maryland where Jack's calling to be a pastor intensified. In 1979, Pastor
Jack Cox was ordained and moved a new work, the Arundel Christian Fellowship,
to the Severn/Glen Burnie area. A remnant remained at the Arnold location
and adopted the name New Covenant Church of Arnold and is currently led by
Pastor Chris Peeler. Arnold 's New Covenant Church is a growing fellowship
that now meets in their new building at 365 Jones Station Road .
In 1985, Arundel Christian Fellowship purchased land in the Severn area
and began building. In 1987, the small church group moved from their regular
meeting place of Quarterfield Elementary School to their new building and
adopted the new name of Severn Covenant Church . In 1991 the building was
expanded to the size of the current facility, but even this was being outgrown
by the rapidly growing congregation.
In 2000, Severn Covenant Church launched its first church plant in Pasadena,
Maryland, Lighthouse Covenant Church. Lighthouse Covenant Church meets at
7840 June Drive. In 2003, a second church plant was birthed, Harvest Covenant
Church, which currently meets at the Severn Covenant Church building at 4pm
on Sunday.
In 2006, Severn Covenant Church invites you to experience Covenant Family
with us. Pastor Jack Cox received a word in 1979 from the Lord, "Treat them
like family" which has set the tone for our congregation's history and its
future.
